“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom”

Founder - James Renwick

Following a degree in psychology, I’ve spent over 20 years in leadership roles across government, agency and charity sectors, specialising in behaviour change, marketing and brand strategy. I was responsible for the UK’s most trusted brand at Macmillan Cancer Support for seven years, where I also led a 35-strong brand and creative department. Outside of running a coaching business, I’m a non-executive Director at The Charity for Civil Servants.

My passion is leading others through transformational change, lifting their performance with an authentic coaching style that both inspires and empowers. Having experienced the power of coaching across my working life, I decided this would be the focus of my next chapter. After completing Barefoot’s flagship Business and Personal Coaching course in 2020, I have subsequently become a Professional Certified Coach through the International Coaching Federation.

My approach to coaching

I view coaching as a ‘thinking partnership’, centred on the belief that we’re all resourceful, and that the mind that holds the problem, also holds the best solution.

Sometimes we can become stuck. But when we feel safe, when we’re really listened to and challenged with compassion, we’re able to reframe our perspectives, reassess any limiting beliefs that may be holding us back and refocus on what’s within our control, rather than what’s not. As we improve our self-awareness, movement of thought happens, bringing new choices and possibilities. This can have a dramatic and sustainable impact on our performance, also providing greater fulfilment and joy.

For these reasons, I don’t think there’s been a more important time for coaching than right now.

How coaching has helped me

I’m continually amazed by the long-lasting impact of coaching that has helped me over the last 10 years - the ripples of a coaching conversation often reach far beyond the actual conversation itself.

Through coaching I’ve improved behaviours and habits, as well as achieving more transformational change based on my own beliefs, drivers and value systems. Without coaching, I don’t think I would have left a successful full-time career to retrain and set up an independent coaching business.

James and Peta quickly built trust, created a safe space for personal reflection, and provided tools and techniques to help our students deal with challenges both they face now and in the future. We’d highly recommend their group coaching.

I found our sessions to be hugely thought provoking, and they have provided me with the opportunity to not only define what conditions enable me to deliver to the best of my ability, but also to pinpoint the conditions that make me unhappy with my own performance.

James takes his craft seriously. He is well read and well rounded. A supportive coach, an encouraging coach and a serious coach who served me well!
